F.R.I.E.N.D.S of Poker
Friends has been one of the most popular American sitcoms of all time. The show became a global sensation right from their first episode back in 1994 right through to the 236th and last episode a decade later. Now if you have been watching the show closely, you will find that there has been a lot of references to poker in it. For all you poker fans out there, the 18th episode of Season 1 went on air on March 2 and there was a poker showdown among the friends on the show. The episode was named “The One With All the Poker” and the episode focused on a series of poker contests between the guys (Ross, Chandler and Joey) and the girls (Rachel, Monica and Phoebe).
In this episode you find that the girls lose badly at poker and so they bring in Monica’s Aunt Iris who is an expert in Poker. Iris teaches the girls the tricks of the trade but unfortunately the lessons don’t amount to much help because the girls end up losing a rematch and they get more taunts from the guys. The episode was a lot of fun because I’m sure a lot of poker players out there were laughing their blocks of when they saw the stupid mistakes the girls were making all through the games. One of my favorite scene’s is when Phoebe accuses Joey of lying about how good his cards were. Joey retorts “I was bluffing”, to which Phoebe says “Aha! And what is bluffing? Is it not another word for lying?” Phoebe is absolutely clueless about the fact that you have to bluff in poker and that is just a part of the game.
