Las Vegas Pays Birthday Tribute to Michael Jackson (1958 – 2009)
Gone too soon! That’s all I can say about the absence of the World’s Best Entertainer. Every time I hear ‘Man in the Mirror’, ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Bad’, ‘Beat it’ or the number one pop song that hit the US charts the minute it was released and stole every fan’s heart was ‘Thriller’. Thriller was released a month before the year I was born, so you can imagine I grew up listening to the King of Pop. Not only was his music exceptional and his talent beyond comparison, but he stood out as the first most successful black artist on MTV; and the success of ‘Thriller’ made the other black artists gain mainstream recognition.
I was one of this legend’s fans besides the lies and controversies that surrounded him. I loved his music and no one could ever match up to his talent … especially imitate the Moonwalk! But he’s put to rest now and the world still mourns this timeless icon. He promised a ‘comeback’ in July to perform at London, but unfortunately that was short-lived. He passed away on June 25th 2009! Here’s a glimpse of his last rehearsal.
Michael Jackson seemed to love Las Vegas and had performed on several different occasions in the capital of entertainment. Vegas commemorated the legend’s birthday and paid tribute to him. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop was awarded a star on the Palms Casino Resort’s Walk of Fame on August 29th 2009; which would have been the artist’s 51st birthday. His father Joe Jackson and hundreds of other fans watched this commemoration wishing the singer was alive to watch being cemented on the city’s legacy forever. According to emcee Robin Leach, the singer wanted to unveil the Star after his last tour in London with some type of major event.
From his one sequined glove, white socks to his glittery military jackets, Jackson never failed to set the trend, get fashionistas buzzing or steal fan’s hearts. Of course his music will never die and we will continue to love and miss him!
“I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change…………”
